The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has opened for entries for its return to London on Thursday 17th September 2015, as runners from the city’s biggest organisations swap their suits for tracksuits and take up their batons for the world’s most unique relay event.

Registration is now open, and for a limited time, teams can sign up for the special early bird rate. Find out more here.

The ninth annual edition of the global series will see over 1,100 city workers race the streets of London, tackling tight corners, narrow alleyways and steep staircases as they attempt to prove themselves as the city’s fastest company.

Barclays currently hold the record as the company that has secured the sought-after title four times since the race began in 2007. In 2014, Nicholas Torry of Commerzbank took home the title of the City of London’s fastest runner after completing the one-mile route in a remarkable 04:58.9.

The race consists of teams of ten, with every participant taking on the one-mile route before handing over the baton to the next colleague in-line to compete.

More than 100 teams will compete for the coveted winners’ trophy, along with a £5,000 cheque to donate to charity, which will be presented at the renowned after party in the Race Village at London’s Guildhall Yard.

Four-time Olympic gold medal winner and 400m world record holder Michael Johnson, who started the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay London in 2014, commented on the event: “The unique layout certainly makes it a different challenge from anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m not sure I’d back myself on this course!

“It was great to see the competitive edge that the City of London has to offer translated onto the track, if you can win this event you’ve certainly earned that right.”

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay first started in London in 2007 and has expanded into a global race series, with events taking place in Singapore and Hong Kong since 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Bloomberg is the headline partner of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay, now entering its ninth year with the unique event.

The official health club partner, Virgin Active, is supporting the event for another year by providing a series of exclusive offers for participants as well as ensuring that all runners are looked after pre and post-race with their team of personal trainers.

As the event’s media partner, Sport magazine will be on-hand to keep its readers informed of offers available when they register their team, and Karrimor, the official sportswear provider will supply kit to each runner on the night.
