Lord Sebastian Coe is set to be elected unopposed as chairman of the British Olympic Association after his only opponent withdrew from the race. UK Sport is also welcoming a new addition to the team after appointing Simon Timson as its new performance director.

Coe’s only opposition, Richard Leman, boss of British hockey, had faced an unlikely task against the 56-year old after the success of the London 2012 Games.

The election to succeed Colin Moynihan at the helm of the BOA will take place on 7th November.

Meanwhile, UK Sport has appointed Simon Timson as its new performance director.

Currently head of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) development programme and science and medicine, Timson has also played a role in the England team’s recent successes.

In his new role, which he will begin in January, he will be responsible for UK Sport’s high-performance system, helping to ensure elite athletes are successful at future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Before working at the ECB, Timson was performance director to British Skeleton from 2000 to 2006 and played a pivotal role in medal successes at every Games since Salt Lake City in 2002.
