The takeover of Newcastle United by retail entrepreneur Mike Ashley has prompted
wholesale changes on the club’s board with four of the directors stepping down.
Deputy chairman Douglas Hall, Bruce Shepherd, Allison Antonopoulos and Tim
Revill have all resigned from their positions on the Newcastle board.
Despite selling his shareholding to Ashley, Freddie Shepherd will remain in
his role as chairman with Chris Mort and Steve Hayward coming on to the board.
While Shepherd’s involvement will continue, that of the Hall family, whose
decision to sell their 41.6% stake in the club sparked Ashley’s takeover bid,
will come to an end.
The departures of Douglas Hall and his sister Antonopoulos end the family’s
association more than 16 years after their father Sir John took control of the
club.
