Ahead of The 2018 Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, BNY Mellon and Newton Investment Management have launched ‘Future Blues’; a community outreach project that will give state-school students the opportunity to start rowing.

Future Blues is launched alongside The Boat Race Company and delivered by Fulham Reach Boat Club.

In 2018 Future Blues is targeting the 52 state schools that border The Championship Course of The Boat Race in four London Boroughs; Hammersmith and Fulham, Wandsworth, Hounslow and Richmond.

The initiative is already helping the 12 state schools in the Hammersmith and Fulham Borough, including those that were directly impacted by the Grenfell tragedy last year.

It will create a project that has a measurable impact with repeatable results, and increasing the total number of school rowing clubs in the UK by 50%.

Hanneke Smits, CEO of Newton Investment Management, said: “We are immensely proud to launch the Future Blues community project that will increase the total number of school rowing clubs in the UK by 50%. We hope this initiative will leave a legacy of not only social upliftment but diversity and education for the future.”
