The Boat Race has renewed its partnership with English wine producer Chapel Down.
The new two-year deal will cover the 2022 and 2023 editions of the race, which takes place on the River Thames between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
Chapel Down, which is based in the town of Tenterden in Kent, will remain the official celebration partner of the event after having first signed up as a sponsor of the race in 2017.
As well as providing jeroboams of sparkling wine for the winning crews to celebrate with, Chapel Down wines will also be served at Boat Race events throughout the year, and they will have dedicated space within one of the fan parks on Boat Race day.
The Boat Race Company Limited Chair, Tim Senior, said, “We recognise the Chapel Down focus on excellence that matches that of the Boat Race and its crews. It is fitting that the winners of an iconic British sporting rivalry, will celebrate with Chapel Down sparkling wine this April.”
The 76th women’s race will begin an hour before the 167th edition of the men’s race on 3rd April. Before Covid-19, the event attracted about 250,000 spectators every year, with millions more watching live on the BBC.
Chapel Down CEO, Andrew Carter, said, “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with this iconic event in the British sporting calendar. We will all share a moment of great joy and celebration as the winning crews celebrate with Chapel Down.”
