The 2010 Commonwealth Games commercial appeal and TV audiences could be hit after double Olympic and world sprint champion Usain Bolt has announced that he will skip the competition.
Bolt, who also missed the 2006 Games because of an injury, will be absent from Delhi to concentrate on his build-up for the London 2012 Olympics.
His coach Glen Mills said the 100m and 200m world record holder was always set to skip the Commonwealth Games saying that he made the decision ‘long ago’.
Bolt’s mass appeal will surely detract the viewing figures and popularity of the Games that will take place in India – despite initial security fears.
The Games, which run from 3rd to 14th October and include17 sports, will be broadcast by the BBC.
