BoxNation, the subscription boxing channel, is set to broadcast this year’s upcoming fights involving Floyd Mayweather Jr and Amir Khan.
The channel, which is owned by Frank Warren, will be screening Mayweather’s welterweight fight against Robert Guerrero on 4th May. It is also reportedly going to broadcast Khan’s fight against Julio Diaz on 27th April. Khan’s previous two fights had been shown on Sky Sports.
The deal reportedly came about through BoxNation’s partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, who represent Khan and Mayweather Promotions, owned by the American boxer.
In the US, HBO, the leading boxing broadcaster, has cut ties with Golden Boy Promotions for allowing its big-name boxers such as Khan to sign multi-fight deals with Showtime, their rival broadcaster. The decision means the channel is now likely to focus its boxing coverage on other stars including Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez and Andre Ward.
