The British Paralympic Association (BPA) has appointed Sports Sphere as its exclusive commercial sales agency ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Under the agreement, Sports Sphere will be tasked with attracting “relevant partners in key industry sectors” as the BPA seeks to make the UK a world leader in Paralympic sport both on and off the field of play.
London-based sports talent and marketing group Sports Sphere has a strong track record within the disability sports sector.
The agency represents leading GB competitors including Jonnie Peacock, David Weir, Alfie Hewett and Dan Greaves, and has worked with ParalympicGB and its partners for almost a decade.
The BPA appointment follows recent investment into Sport Sphere’s rights sales operation.
Managing director James Harper explained: “Having recently recruited Alastair Grant to lead our Rights Sales team, this appointment demonstrates the quality and ability that we can now offer as an agency, building on our established athlete management, PR and sponsorship activation success.
“I’m hugely excited to be working with the BPA over the coming years; we’ve developed a range of innovative and creative concepts to allow brands to maximise their investment in what we regard as one of the strongest emerging sectors within British sport.”
Karl Reynolds, BPA commercial director, commented: “We are delighted to build on our existing strong relationship with Sports Sphere and recognise [its] knowledge and expertise in the Paralympic landscape as we seek out new commercial partnerships for the Tokyo 2020 cycle.
“The British Paralympic Association’s vision is, through sport, to inspire a better world for disabled people and our partners play a crucial role in supporting our talented ParalympicsGB athletes who are such powerful role models throughout the UK.”
The commercial growth of Paralympic sport has been in the spotlight this year, following an agreement by the International Olympic Committee and International Paralympic Committee to jointly manage worldwide rights from the 2020 cycle.
