A first trailer for the upcoming F1 film starring Brad Pitt was released during this weekend’s Silverstone Grand Prix (7th July).

Speaking to Martin Brundle for Sky Sports during the 2023 British Grand Prix, Pitt said the film was about “a guy who raced in the 1990s… who has a horrible crash, craps out and disappears, then he’s racing in other disciplines. His friend, played by Javier Bardem, he’s a team owner, contacts him. They’re a last place team, they’re 21-22 on the grid, they’ve never scored a point.

But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary and hijinks ensue. Tell you what’s amazing about it — there are cameras mounted all over the car — you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen just the G-forces like this. It’s really, really exciting.”

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, best known for writing three of the five instalments in the original Transformers film series, filming has taken place at various real F1 events.

Speaking about the filming process following the box office success of Kosinski’s previous movie, Top Gun: Maverick, the American director said, “Certainly seeing people react to an in-camera, authentically captured film like ‘Top Gun’ makes us all feel good that our approach works and is appreciated by audiences.

It’s almost funny to me to see people who are so enamoured with real photography. Younger people almost haven’t seen a lot of it. They’re so used to CGI being a tool of big movies that when you shoot something for real, it feels innovative.”

Alongside Pitt, the film also stars Damson Idris as Pitt’s teammate, Javier Bardem as the owner of the fictional APXGP team, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies and Sarah Niles, with a cameos from some of the sport’s biggest starts, including Lewis Hamilton.

F1 is scheduled to be released on 25th June 2025 in the US and 27th June 2025 internationally.
