Justin Rose – currently in Augusta at the Masters – has signed a personal sponsorship agreement with British Airways, which will see the world number three represent the airline for the next three years.

As part of the deal the Ryder Cup star will appear in the airline’s global marketing activity, making personal appearances at company events and supporting its charitable initiatives.

Rose will also sport British Airways’ logo on the collar of his shirt during competitions, beginning yesterday with the first major of the season at Augusta this week.

The English golfer had a solid start to the tournament with a round of 70 to go into the second day at two under par.

Rose said of the deal: ‘I’m delighted to be working with British Airways. Golf takes me all over the world, and as an athlete it’s really important to arrive feeling refreshed and ready to compete.’

‘The premium service provided by British Airways and its OneWorld partners will be a great support with the busy season ahead and I’m proud to be an ambassador for my favourite airline.’

‘In recent years I have got off to a flying start at Augusta and hopefully this time round I will be able to sustain that momentum so that I’m in contention come Sunday afternoon.’

Abigail Comber, British Airways’ head of marketing, added: ‘We have a long-standing history in supporting British sporting talent and I’m pleased that we are able to continue this through our partnership with Justin. We look forward to working with him.’
