British Boxing Fighting Outside The Ring

British boxing’s biggest stories may be fought outside the ring in the coming weeks, with Golden Boy Promotions formally requesting that Lamont Petersen’s victory over Amir Khan be annulled, and Frank Warren warning that he will take legal action if the British Boxing Board of Control do not withdraw a threat to revoke his licence over the promotion of a fight between Dereck Chisora and David Haye.

Golden Boy Promotions have written to the IBF and the WBA calling for Khan’s loss in December to be annulled after Petersen admitted to doping ahead of the fight. A scheduled rematch has already been cancelled after Petersen was caught doping by a random test.

Meanwhile, Warren has written to the British Boxing Board of Control insisting that he has not breached any rules in the matter of the potential fight between Haye and Chisora, which will be sanctioned by the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Boxe.

Warren wrote: ‘My concern is that by issuing the threat contained in your press release you are trying to stop me from being involved in a legitimate and lawful fight governed by another federation and to interfere with my freedom to earn a living.’

He added to the organisation that he was concerned that it had made the decision ‘because you are fearful that you will lose your monopoly in the UK,’ and insisted formal complaints from solicitors would follow if the board did not confirm it would not seek to take away his licence.
