Andy Murray’s delayed French Open semi-final on Saturday 6th June was British Eurosport’s highest rating tennis match in the history of the channel.

The Murray v Djokovic match achieved a peak audience of 560,000 making British Eurosport 1 the third most watched channel in the UK at that time behind BBC1 and ITV1.

The new record eclipses the 529,000 that watched Andy Murray beat Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round of the Australian Open in January.

The success of the preceding Andy Murray match also helped British Eurosport achieve its highest ever rating for a women’s tennis match, with a peak audience of 289,000 watching Serena Williams beat Lucie Safarova in the final of the French Open.

British Eurosport managing director David Kerr said: “We have enjoyed a record breaking year of tennis on British Eurosport, setting the record for our highest ever tennis ratings at the Australian Open in January and now breaking that record again just five months later.

“We are fortunate to benefit from an unrivalled set of analysts, reporters and commentators, including tennis legends John McEnroe and Chris Evert commentating on the French Open for us for the first time.

“We continue to invest in tennis, strengthening both our production and our rights, so that we can carry the momentum gained at the French Open into the five British grass court tournaments which start this week.”

British Eurosport will show all five British grass court tournaments this summer and conclude with Great Britain’s Davis Cup tie against France.
