The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has commissioned Think Beyond and Substance to develop a framework to measure the social value created by horseracing in the UK.

The project forms part of the BHA’s new social impact strategy, which sets out an industry-wide approach to enhancing the sport’s positive contribution to people and communities.

Think Beyond and Substance will collaborate with stakeholders across the sector to establish a transparent methodology and identify measurable outcomes.

The multi-phase project is set to run through to the end of 2025 and aims to provide a detailed understanding of horseracing’s social impact at both a national and local level.

Tom Baker, Head of Social Impact at the British Horseracing Authority, said, “British racing is an industry that is committed to having a positive impact and there is already a significant amount of vital work taking place across the country that is making a real difference in our communities.

“Our new strategy builds on these strong foundations to help ensure we can have an even greater impact, and it is crucial that we are able to quantify the social value created by horseracing. These results can play a critical role in shaping public perception, helping the sport secure new partners, and influence decision-makers by demonstrating the full impact of the sport.”
