British newspapers The Daily Mirror and The Sun are set to battle for readers in South Africa during the World Cup as both are to publish papers in the host country.
The Daily Mirror will be distributed by South African media house Avusa and published daily for the one month duration of the tournament, which kicks off in Johannesburg on 11th June.
The daily paper will be accompanied by its sister Sunday title which will be published weekly in South Africa.
The issue will be the same one published from London but the Mirror hasn’t announced how many copies it will distribute.
The Sun will only publish in South Africa on the days that the England team play and the day after its games.
During the Euro 2008 football championships held in Austria and Switzerland, The Sun published a Polish edition in the UK called ‘Polski Sun’ to appeal to the estimated 750,000 Poles living in the UK.
