The Royal Navy has announced a partnership with British Swimming that will see the two organisations showcase the multiple opportunities available to recruits and the possibilities of a career in the Royal Navy.
The partnership, negotiated by Dentsu Aegis Network Sport & Entertainment, is designed to raise awareness of the opportunities for a career in the Royal Navy.
The campaign launches with a short film featuring Olympic medallists Michael Jamieson and Keri-anne Payne, who visited HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth, home to the Director of Naval Physical Development, to take part in the Royal Navy open water physical exercise earlier this year.
Speaking about the partnership, Kevin Bull, associate director, Dentsu Aegis Network Sport & Entertainment said: ‘When the Royal Navy approached us with the challenge of helping support their recruiting drive, we looked deep at the lifestyle that a career in the Navy provides. It was clear there are several similarities with a career in a sport like swimming, so it made sense to forge a partnership between the two bodies.’
Captain Mark Cameron, Captain Naval Recruiting for the Royal Navy, added: ‘By developing a relationship with British Swimming the Royal Navy is able to demonstrate that there are many more parallels than people might realise. The Royal Navy might offer one career but there are many opportunities within that and if recruits are particularly passionate about a sport, like swimming, then we can support that. I can clearly see in Michael and Keri-anne the qualities we look for in personnel: leadership, camaraderie, courage and passion.’
According to the official release, the partnership will evolve over the coming months with the two parties exploring further ways to share knowledge and training skills with a view to forging a longer term relationship to promote careers within the Royal Navy.
