The BT Infinity Lab has announced plans to launch a competition to find digital entrepreneurs with ideas for innovation in sports broadcastings, with the winning idea to be potentially trialled by BT Sport.
The winner will receive six months of support from BT’s research and innovation teams, as well as a six month membership to TechHub, with access to their events and workspace.
BT Sport, which launched in 2013, is looking for groundbreaking technology that can be used on the channel.
BT said in a statement: “Entries are encouraged to focus on aiding a sports TV viewer’s experience through technologies including apps, augmented reality, as well as innovations in studio side production.”
BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey, who will be one of those judging the competition, said: “I’m a massive techie; I love the latest gadgets, technology and apps. During my time as a TV presenter I’ve also seen huge changes in the technologies and innovations being used by broadcasters and I can’t wait for the next invention. I’m delighted to be joining up with this initiative. My advice to entrants would be aim high, but be realistic in terms of how your innovations can be used in the real world.”
