Telecommunications brand BT has been named as the second major sponsor of England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup, evidence that the campaign is gaining increasing traction with the corporate market.
BT will provide the bid campaign with financial and marketing support, and now has the marketing rights as an Official England 2018 World Cup Bid Partner.
They will provide advice to the communications services to be included in England’s final submission to FIFA in May.
BT will join tax and advisory services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in lending its commercial backing to the bid.
England is one of eight competitors bidding to host the 2018 tournament and one of 10 bidding to host the 2022 tournament. The decision for both tournaments will be announced in Zurich in December 2010.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has recently hinted that the bidding for 2018 may be restricted to European countries only to allow the 2022 tournament to be held outside of that continent.
