BT Sport has extended its deal with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) for a further three years, joining Sky Sports who confirmed a similar extension last week.

As part of the new deal, BT Sport will show up to 30 live Ladbrokes Premiership matches per season until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, as well as up to six Premiership play-off matches live per season.

Sky currently broadcasts up to 25 matches a season while BT Sport shows a maximum of 30 games.

“Over the past two seasons BT Sport has established a fantastic connection to Scottish football, with growing audiences for our televised coverage,” said Simon Green, the head of BT Sport.

“With the addition of the popular end of season play-offs, BT Sport looks forward to serving Scottish football fans for the next five years with regular league coverage.”

Speaking last week at the announcement of Sky Sports latest rights, managing director Barney Francis added: “We’re delighted to extend our partnership with the SPFL, taking our coverage of Scottish football to almost 30 years with this deal.

“The SPFL is a major part of our unrivalled football schedule, in addition to the Scottish Cup and Scotland’s UEFA Euro 2016 and FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers.”
