Burberry Teams Up With Rashford To Support Youth Projects Around The World
Marcus Rashford has joined forces with UK fashion label Burberry in a bid to support young people around the world.
The Manchester United and England striker, who has led a campaign to lobby the government to provide children who receive free school meals with food over the school holiday periods, will take his campaign to new countries, supporting global organisations funding youth centres across the UK and around the world.
As part of the partnership, Burberry will support with community youth organisation London Youth, which supports a network of over 600 community organisations across the capital, and the Manchester-based Norbrook Youth Club and Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, youth centres that supported Rashford in his childhood years.
Burberry and Rashford will also support New York City-based Wide Rainbow, a non-profit organisation which provides access to arts education in the US.
The pair will also support the International Youth Foundation, which works with young people and communities across the world.
Pam Batty, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, Burberry, said: “This year has substantially impacted young people, and we wanted to mark this festive season by giving back to the incredible youth centres and charities making a life-changing difference through providing safe spaces and vital support.
“We believe, especially now, it is so important to help them empower the emerging change-makers of tomorrow and continue their efforts to sustain and protect the vulnerable.”
To coincide with the announcement, Rashford wrote a letter to his ten-year-old self, in which he acknowledges the role of those around him throughout his life.
He said: “Your community will prove to be the most special extension of your family. When you fall, which you will, there will always be neighbours and friends to catch you. There is no need to feel ashamed because they will catch you without judgment and comment. No questions asked.
“Feel the warmth of those around you and know that one day, you are going to have the platform to repay them. For a young boy who says so little, one day you will have a voice that speaks for so many.”
