Formula One racer Jenson Button and his management team, Richard Goddard and James Williamson, have launched sports agency, The Sports Partnership, offering management and PR services to professional athletes and key figures in the world of sport.

As part of the move The Sports Partnership has acquired Back to Front PR, the sports PR company set up by Williamson in 2006 which previously handled all of Button’s PR.

As a result the Sports Partnership has launched with a roster including Jenson Button himself, former Red Bull racing driver and BBC commentator David Coulthard, Chicago Bulls and Team GB’s Luol Deng and rising golf star Jake Shepherd for personal representation.

The Sports Partnership is also responsible for running Jenson’s charity The Jenson Button Trust with various events taking place throughout the year at key races such as Monaco, Silverstone, Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

Button will also act as Head of Motorsport with a view to working with young drivers in the future to help develop their careers in the sport.

Button said: ‘As a driver who has been racing for 24 years with 12 of them being in F1, I’ve been through the good and the bad and with the sport changing as much as it has in that time, I’ve certainly learnt a great deal. I think with what I’m able to offer from a driver perspective coupled with what my current team are able to offer we’re in a great position to really help guide a young driver and get the best out of them.’

‘For me Formula One, and making it to Formula One, is not just about driving fast. It’s about carrying yourself correctly, working in the right manner with your team, the sponsors, with the engineers and training in the right way so that you enjoy it and so you’re physically and mentally prepared to take on the challenges that you face as a driver.’

It’s very easy for a young driver to think “what do you know?” when being given advice by people around them. With the team we have at the Sports Partnership it’s made up of people who have been with me for a long time, as a team we’ve been through a lot together and as a result we can offer advice based on first-hand experience which is invaluable.”

Richard Goddard added: ‘Jenson has a number of years still left as a driver but it’s something we’ve always talked about and have decided to launch sooner rather than later. He sees it as a fantastic chance to use the years of experience he’s accumulated to help guide and nurture young talent coming through.’
