Sports goods brand Canterbury of New Zealand has made its first foray into the
football market after striking a kit sponsorship deal with FA Premier League
side Portsmouth.
Canterbury, which has established a significant share of the rugby apparel
market, is branching out into football through the deal which will see the brand
supply Portsmouth with first team kit, training apparel and bench wear from the
beginning of next season.
The deal, which will also bring to football the first layered kit system
through Canterbury combining its BaseLayer product with playing apparel, will
also see the production of a bespoke range of off-field clothing for Portsmouth
fans.
The long-term agreement is a significant addition to Canterbury’s portfolio
of kit deals joining deals with many of the world’s top rugby nations including
Australia, Ireland, South Africa, Scotland and Japan as well as Heineken Cup
winners London Wasps.
