The Caterham Formula One team has agreed a sponsorship deal with Russian petrochemical company Sibur, following its signing of Russian driver Vitaly Petrov for next season.
The team revealed that Sibur, who were personal sponsors of the Russian last year, will now become an official team partner.
Caterham team principal Tan Sri Tony Fernandes confirmed the agreement with Eastern Europe’s largest petrochemical company just three days after bringing in the 27-year-old driver to replace Jarno Trulli.
Fernandes told the Press Association: ‘F1 is a truly global sport and Sibur’s investment in our sport is proof of the value F1 can bring.’
The first Russian to drive in F1, Petrov was released by Renault after finishing 10th in the world championship in his second season.
The Caterham team was known last season as Team Lotus.
The Sibur logo will appear on Caterham’s CT01 cars as well as Petrov’s racing overalls.
