Mark Cavendish has been appointed as a consultant for nutrition company Science in Sport (SiS) with the British cyclist gaining a stake in the company in return.

The Omega Pharma-Quick Step rider has confirmed a three-year deal with SiS that will see him effectively act as an ambassador for its products, after revealing his admiration for the brand earlier this year.

Speaking at the relaunch of his brand, CVNDSH, the cyclist told Sport Industry TV in June: ‘I’m not commercially working with nutritional sponsors [at the time] because of contractual ties with the team. However, for example, SiS do a lot of things to work with my specific requirements before, during and after races.’

‘I know in the future I really want to work with Science in Sport as a brand, it just means a few changes at my team before that.’

Rather than direct cash payments, Cavendish has reportedly been given 134,250 shares – worth just over £100,000 at SiS’s current share price.

‘I’ve used SiS products for many years and am really looking forward to working with the nutritionists at SiS to develop new products targeted at endurance sport,’ added Cavendish following the deal.
