Road world champion and last year’s Tour de France green jersey winner, Mark Cavendish, has become the latest athlete to sign up as an ambassador of the Jaguar Academy of Sport.

In the role, BBC’s Sport Personality of the Year will promote the programme, which aims to recognise, celebrate and inspire British sporting talent through tailored workshops for what Jaguar calls its ‘Rising Stars’.

Cavendish said: ‘I am really excited about being an ambassador of the Jaguar Academy of Sport at a time when British sport is so huge. The work the Academy does to support and inspire the very best of British talent is fantastic.’

Jaguar’s global sponsorships director Geoff Cousins added: ‘We’re thrilled to announce Mark Cavendish as an Ambassador for the Jaguar Academy of Sport. Mark is a remarkable world-class cyclist – his achievements to date make him a great role model and I have no doubt that he will be an inspiration to the newly announced 2012 Rising Stars.’

Last month, Jaguar also extended its sponsorship and supply deal with Cavendish’s Sky Pro Cycling team for a further three years.

Cavendish will also be appearing at the Nolan Partners Sport Industry Breakfast Club on Tuesday 19th June. To book your place, click here.
