Liverpool’s dramatic penalty shootout victory over Chelsea last night broke
audience records for ITV attracting a peak audience of 11.7m according to
unofficial overnight figures.
The 11.7m audience peak, which occurred during the shootout between 10pm and
10.15pm, was the biggest viewing figures for a knockout game, excluding the
final, that ITV has ever brought in over 15 years of covering the Champions
League.
ITV1’s live coverage, excluding pre- and post-match comment and analysis, and
the half-time interval, attracted an average of 9.8m viewers and a 42% share of
audience.
An average of 8.9 m viewers – a 40% share – watched the entire programme,
which ran from 7pm to 10.45pm, including 30 minutes’ extra time and
penalties.
