W Series and Channel 4 have teamed up to launch a new six-part documentary series about the all-female racing series.

‘W Series: Driven’ highlights the bravery and tenacity of the series’ drivers, both on and off the track, as they push the limits in the pursuit of acceptance in an industry that has not produced a female F1 Grand Prix driver for almost half a century.

Available on All 4 from 20th June, the series will follow 54 female racing drivers from around the world – including an F1 engineer, a Hollywood stunt driver, a plumber, a banker, and two mums – who undergo three days of rigorous testing in a bid to become a W Series driver.

The group of some of the world’s finest female racing drivers is then whittled down to a final cohort of 18, who competed in the inaugural season of the free-to-enter racing series which aims to produce the first female Formula 1 driver since 1976.

The documentary then follows the highs and lows of life as a racing driver throughout the season, with women competing at six circuits across Europe in the inaugural W Series season.

“I am thrilled that as of Sunday 20 June W Series: Driven will be available in full,” said Catherine Bond Muir CEO, W Series.

“There is currently a great appetite – amongst motor racing fans and beyond – for behind-the-scenes motorsport action and Driven delivers all the excitement and drama of W Series’ inaugural season in six gripping episodes.

“It’s a brilliant recap of our journey thus far for existing fans and I am confident that with the platform provided by All 4 and our global broadcast partners we will reach an even greater and more diverse audience in the lead up to our first race in Austria.”

Meanwhile, W Series has also announced that Channel 4 will continue to broadcast the 2021 season. It returns in 2021 with eight races on the Formula 1 undercard, beginning in late June in France, and ending in October in Mexico City.
