Chelsea will support local businesses as they recover from the coronavirus pandemic, with the launch of a new initiative which will see small companies with a London postcode given the opportunity to apply for free advertising space on matchdays.
The club says the successful applicants will benefit from ‘inventory typically available only to major partners’. That will see the small business gain exposure through a digital campaign headlined by a branded story on Chelsea’s Instagram channel – which boasts 25.5million followers – on a matchday, as well as spots in its half-time and full-time social media posts.
The club has made the initiative open to businesses employing fewer than 50 people, with a closing date for applications on Friday 26th March.
The initiative comes as an extension to the Premier League side’s ‘Proud of London’ campaign, which launched on its 116th anniversary with a video narrated by former player and lifelong supporter Joe Cole.
“‘Proud of London’ is our way of showing how incredibly inspired we’ve been of the city we call our home,” said Gary Twelvetree, Marketing Director, Chelsea.
“London is full of creative minds that push boundaries, support each other, and adapt to what has been an unprecedented challenge through the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. We hope that we can continue to support this great city, just like it has supported us.”
Businesses with fewer than 50 employees and which have a company website are invited to apply, while the club says it will choose the successful applicants based on the efforts they have taken to ‘launch, sustain, or grow’ throughout the pandemic.
