Chelsea FC have appointed former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow to oversee the club’s global commercial activities.
The appointment, which begins with immediate effect, follows last week’s announcement that Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay was leaving the club.
In a club statement Chelsea said it ‘does not expect to announce any other senior appointments in the near future.’
Club chairman Bruce Buck and director Marina Granovskaia have assumed the executive responsibilities of Gourlay.
The Chelsea statement said: ‘The club has ambitious plans to build the Premier League’s most pioneering global commercial programme, partnering with innovative and market-leading organisations from around the world.’
‘The club believes Mr Purslow has the vision and the leadership qualities to help us achieve these plans.’
Purslow, who was managing director of Liverpool from June 2009 to October 2010, oversaw the period that saw the club sold from Tom Hicks and George Gillett to current owners the NESV group.
