Premiership club Chelsea and the National Football League have struck up a
commercial marketing partnership in the build-up to the NFL game at Wembley
Stadium on 28th October.
Chelsea will play a key role around the match between the Miami Dolphins and
the New York Giants, the first competitive NFL game to be played outside the US
– including the appointment of England captain John Terry and the club’s leading
goal scorer Didier Drogba as honorary captains for the Giants.
The two-time Premier League champions will host the Giants at their
state-of-the-art training ground in Cobham where the team will stage a full
practice and host a media availability session at the facility after arriving in
London on Friday, 26th October.
The move is a further step towards Chelsea’s expansion into the US having
already struck a number of similar commercial partnerships across the Atlantic.
The NFL’s London game has attracted requests for more than half a million
tickets received within 72 hours of its announcement and all tickets sold inside
two hours.
In the UK, the game will be live on Sky Sports with highlights on BBC2.
