Chelsea has revealed a long-term strategic plan, which will aim to ‘accelerate the growth of Chelsea Women’.

In a club statement, Chelsea said that the recently crowned Women’s Super League (WSL) champions will receive their own dedicated resources management and commercial leadership team, ahead of the 2024/25 football season.

This comes as part of a strategy to position Chelsea Women ‘alongside, rather than beneath’ the men’s side, and to help secure additional investment for the team.

Under the new strategic plan, prospective investors will now be able to fund the women’s team directly, rather than investing through the men’s club.

Chelsea has also appointed global merchant bank BDT & MSD Partners to serve as a financial advisor in securing minority investment for the women’s team.

The statement said that additional funding into club infrastructure, training facilities and player development – as well as the revamped strategy for the women’s team – will ‘lay a firm foundation to cement Chelsea Women’s position as a leading force within the women’s game over the next decade and beyond.’

“Dedicated resources and facilities are precisely what women’s football needs and deserves to fulfil the enormous opportunities within the game,” said Chelsea Commercial Director Zarah Al-Kudcy.

“Further investment only underlines how seriously Chelsea values women’s football and the benefits of this will be seen in the many years to come.”

Chelsea Director, Barbara Charone, added, “Chelsea have long been pioneers in the women’s game, and today’s announcement marks a milestone in the history of the club and women’s sport.

“Further investment in the women’s game is vital. These players, coaches, and staff deserve the best, and this bold step ensures Chelsea Women will continue to be a beacon of progress and innovation within the sport.”
