Coca-Cola Great Britain (CCGB) has announced a new three year partnership with StreetGames, a national charity set up to help young people in disadvantaged communities get active and participate in sports.??
The partnership is part of CCGB’s sponsorship of the Olympic Torch Relay and its commitment to increase opportunities for youths to be involved with sport.??
The deal was launched by the Minister for Sport and Olympics, Hugh Robertson MP and StreetGames’ Ambassador and former Olympic athlete Diane Modahl.
StreetGames, a national partner of Sport England, promotes ‘doorstep sport’ to teens in disadvantaged communities who don’t have access to sport in their everyday lives.
?Over the next three years, Coca-Cola Great Britain’s funding will allow StreetGames to deliver an improved sporting experience to over 110,000 young people throughout the country.??
It will help StreetGames to grow its network of projects, start a new programme of 300 Neighbourhood Festivals, and conduct the first ever StreetGames Sport for Change Training Academy, equipping 100 tutors to deliver 11 specific new StreetGames training courses to around 6,000 coaches.
??In the run up to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games Coca-Cola Great Britain aims to draw on the excitement of the Games to encourage both participation and regular attendance at StreetGames events.?
Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and Olympics, said of the new partnership: ‘The fact that the ‘Legacy Leaders’ programme has received a London 2012 Inspire Mark and support from Coca-Cola Great Britain to expand the programme, is testament to the good work that StreetGames is doing to bring the spirit of the Olympic Games to communities across the UK.’??
Coca-Cola is also encouraging people to get active through other brand programmes including Powerade’s support of ‘Take To The Streets’ events and Schweppes Abbey Well water’s ‘Free Swim’ programme.
