Coca-Cola has appointed digital agency AKQA to design and build a global
football portal website that will act as a central focus point for all of the
brand’s sponsorship ties with the sport.
AKQA’s brief for the site, which is expected to go live next year, will also
look to develop Coca-Cola’s football strategy in terms of building branded
content into emerging media platforms from mobile phones to gaming consoles such
as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The content-driven digital strategy will look to emphasise Coca-Cola’s ties
with football at both an international and grass roots level as well as
utilising the brand’s ambassadors from the sport such as Wayne Rooney and
Cristiano Ronaldo.
Coca-Cola currently sponsors the FIFA World Cup and the Football League
amongst a raft of other football contracts.
