Glasgow has been confirmed as the host destination for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Victoria had initially been selected as the host for the next edition of the Games, however the Australian state withdrew in August last year, amid rising costs.
Despite being scrapped, the Games have cost the state AUS$589m (£302.4m).
The Commonwealth Games will return to Glasgow, after previously being staged in the Scottish city in 2014. This also marks the second successive instalment of the event to take place in the UK, following the Birmingham 2022 Games.

After pledging an investment of £100m to the Scottish Government to host the event earlier this month, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) says it has now received the necessary funding from Commonwealth Games Scotland to proceed with Glasgow as the new host.
Commonwealth Games Australia has also agreed to commit a further £2.3m in funding to ‘enhance’ the delivery of the event.
At Glasgow 2026, the athletics and swimming events will take place at Scotstoun Stadium and Tollcross International Swimming Centre respectively. Further information regarding additional venues for the event will be revealed in due course.
“We have been working with Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) and the Scottish Government for several months and are delighted to hear CGS has received confirmation of support from the Government to enable them to progress with their proposal to host the Games in 2026,” said Chris Jenkins, President of the CGF.
“We believe Glasgow 2026 will be an important first step in our commitment to reset and reframe the Commonwealth Games as a co-created, sustainable model that minimises costs, inspires athletes, and excites Hosts and International Federations.
“We will work closely with CGS to positively conclude final stakeholder discussions with the aim of formally announcing Glasgow as the host city for 2026 as soon as possible.”
