Harlequins managing director Tony Copsey has quit the club to become the new chief executive of rival top-flight team London Wasps.

Copsey, who starts at Wasps next month, succeeds David Davies, who was Wasps’ chief executive for the past three years.

The Essex-born 42-year-old and former Welsh international said: ‘It’s a job that offers a number of new challenges that I’m excited about.’

Copsey played much of his career for Llanelli, before spending two years as the Scarlets’ marketing manager. He has been at Harlequins for the last seven years having joined the club in the summer of 2000.

Harlequins chief executive Mark Evans will take on the bulk of Copsey’s responsibilities.
