Steel giant Corus, a leading sponsor of British Triathlon, has launched a new
three race series including an event in London’s Hyde Park, the triathlon site
for the 2012 Olympics.
The Corus Elite Series will incorporate races in Scotland and Wales before
finishing in London on 22nd July where a new ‘eliminator’ super-sprint race
format which essentially separates the race into two heats with the top 20 from
each round competing in the final.
Scotland hosts the first race of the series, to be held in Strathclyde
Country Park, south of Glasgow, on 27th May with the race also playing host to
the National Sprint Triathlon Championships. The series then moves to Bryn Bach
Park in Wales, on 9th June which in turn will double up as the National Standard
Distance Triathlon Championship.
Current Elite World Champion Tim Don and Under 23 World Champion Will Clarke
are expected to lead the British contingency throughout the series.
Extended highlights of the three races in the Corus Elite Series will be
broadcast on Channel 4 as part of a summer series of triathlon programming.
