Nic Coward will leave his position as the chief executive officer of the British Horseracing Authority to become the new general secretary of the Premier League.

Coward, who will take up his role in the New Year, has strong ties in football having been acting CEO of the Football Association.

Coward also served as the FA’s director of corporate and legal affairs and his new role will see him head up the league’s legal functions and manage relationships with the FA, UEFA and FIFA.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: ‘We are extremely pleased to have recruited someone of Nic Coward’s calibre for what is a key role on the Premier League’s senior management team.’

‘His wealth of experience, gained from four years of running the British Horseracing Authority and senior legal, regulatory and management roles during a seven-year spell at the Football Association, will make him an extremely valuable asset.’

Mike Foster, the current general secretary, will stay in the Premier League but in a new role concentrating on the clubs and the competition.
