Cricket chiefs are heading for further talks over the congested fixture calendar after it was revealed that the second Champions League Twenty20 tournament next year will clash with the rescheduled Champions Trophy.

The Twenty20 event will be held between 25th September and 11th October 2009, with the ICC-sanctioned Champions League set to be played at about the same time.

The 2008 Champions Trophy was postponed because of security fears in Pakistan but new dates are set to be finalised this week at an executive committee meeting of the ICC.

The inaugural Champions League was pushed back to December because it had originally clashed with the Trophy.

The Champions League tournament will feature the two top teams of the domestic competition in India, South Africa and Australia, and English Twenty20 Cup champions Middlesex and a team from Pakistan – all battling for £3m.

The 2009 edition will be expanded to 12 teams with a total of 23 matches.

The idea for the Champions League was developed by the cricket authorities of England, India, South Africa and Australia.
