Hampshire Cricket has unveiled plans for a new debenture scheme that will see the cricket fans help fund a £48m project to turn the Rose Bowl into a 25,000 seater stadium – the second biggest cricket ground in the country after Lord’s.
The new scheme will give participants the rights to buy face value tickets for the best seats at The Rose Bowl for all International Matches, Domestic Finals, Twenty20 Cup matches and other domestic competition Quarter Finals and Semi Finals held at the home of Hampshire Cricket between 2010 and 2016.
The debenture scheme will also pay out an annual interest bonus, equivalent to 5% of the debenture purchase price, and is designed to enable participants to recover their initial investment, when the agreement comes to an end in December 2016 or at the end of 2013 by means of an early withdrawal provision.
Work has already begun to enhance the spectator experience at The Rose Bowl and turn the innovative venue into one of the country’s premier sporting arenas. The project will also feature a new 175-bedroom hotel plus improved facilities and access.
The changes will be completed by the time The Rose Bowl hosts its first Test Match (England v Sri Lanka) in 2011.
A minimum of 20 days of international cricket will take place at The Rose Bowl up to the end of 2016. These will include One Day Internationals between England and Australia in 2009, 2010 & 2013 while India will play a Test Match against England at The Rose Bowl in 2014.
The Debenture Scheme will offer 1150 cricket fans the opportunity to buy tickets for their reserved seats within The Rose Bowl’s premium areas with packages ranging from £2500 to £6000.
It is envisaged that the money raised from the scheme will contribute to the construction of two new covered spectator stands and associated facilities, which form part of the wider redevelopment.
