Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has partnered with Abbott for the #BeThe1Donor campaign, which looks to inspire young people to regularly give blood.
The former Manchester United winger has become the first global ambassador for the campaign.
Each year 234 million major operations are performed worldwide, with Ronaldo himself a regular donor, first giving blood after seeing his teammate’s son was ill and in need of a donation.
Ronaldo said: “We can all make a difference by donating blood. Each donation can benefit up to three people in emergency situations and for long-term medical treatments.”
“That’s why I am enthusiastic to be partnering with Abbott to bring awareness to the importance of blood donation and to encourage people around the world to become life long blood donors and help save lives.”
