Danone has appointed sports specialist PR agency Pitch to help promote the upcoming Danone Nations Cup, the world’s biggest international football tournament for 10 to 12-year olds.

The Soho-based sports communications consultancy was also recently appointed to promote the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the launch of the BT Sport channel.

Working in collaboration with the communications and marketing team at Danone, the agency will play a key role in promoting the global grassroots football tournament across the UK. Now in its fourteenth year, the Danone Nations Cup world final will be hosted in London for the very first time.

2,500,000 boys and girls from across the world participate in the tournament on an annual basis, with the initiative built on the values of fair play, openness and sharing.

Zinedine Zidane, one of the world’s greatest and most iconic football players of all time is the tournament’s official global ambassador and will oversee proceedings when the world final kicks off at Wembley on 7th September.

Marie De Muizon, head of corporate social responsibility, Danone said: ‘We are pleased to have Pitch on board for the Danone Nations Cup as part of our marketing communications team. The agency brings considerable experience to the table, based on an impressive body of work on leading UK and international sporting events. We have been very impressed with the results achieved to date.’

Henry Chappell, chief executive, Pitch added: ‘The Danone Nations Cup is the biggest schools football tournament in the world, and one of the most successful legacy programmes in sport, having taken place every year since the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. This is the first time the world final has come to the UK, and with Wembley as the ideal venue, I’m sure it will be a great occasion. We’re thrilled to have been appointed by Danone.’
