The FA has honoured Captain Sir Tom Moore as the first member of the organisation’s ‘Lionhearts’ squad.
The initiative aims to pay homage to 23 individuals who contributed during the coronavirus pandemic, creating a new ‘England squad’ in the absence of EURO 2020.
The 100-year-old Captain Sir Tom is the first to be honoured after raising more than £32 million for NHS Charities Together. He was inducted into the squad by former England captain David Beckham, who conducted a socially-distant interview on a visit to Moore’s home.
Every team needs a captain.
