David Dein, former Arsenal vice-chairman, has been appointed international president of England’s World Cup bid.

Dein is set to work alongside chairman Lord Triesman in England’s bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup.

England must submit their application by 14th May – FIFA will then examine each country’s bid in August or September ahead of the final decision in December.

The bid team also includes FIFA vice-president Geoff Thompson, Football League chairman Brian Mawhinney, former Chelsea player Paul Elliott and Sebastian Coe, who led London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

England’s rivals for the 2018/2022 are: Australia, Belgium-Netherlands (joint bid), Indonesia, Japan, Portugal-Spain (joint bid), Russia, USA.

Andy Anson, chief executive of England 2018, will be the interviewee at the inaugural Sport Industry Breakfast Club event on 16th March, only two months before the official bid document is due to be handed in to world governing body FIFA.
