Dazn and Sky Sports have secured the UK and Ireland broadcasting rights to every match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
This follows a last-minute non-exclusive sublicensing deal with Viacom18, the Twenty20 cricket competition’s regional broadcast partner.
Beginning on 31st March, all 74 matches, including the playoffs and finals, will be included in the Dazn subscription and available on Sky Sports Cricket.
Sky has been the exclusive UK home of IPL action since the start of the 2020 season, but has now lost its exclusivity to Dazn.
Dazn 1 HD, a recently launched non-stop multi-sport channel, can be found on Sky and will also be showing the full IPL coverage.
Dazn Group CEO, Shay Segev, said, “Dazn is committed to building the world’s ultimate destination for sports fans; this means investing in developing our platform alongside acquiring and delivering premium rights. The IPL is the world’s foremost T20 cricket competition, which features the biggest names in cricket battling it out over 74 matches, all of which are available live and exclusively to Dazn’s UK subscribers.
“With access to Dazn starting at less than nine pounds a month, and a whole host of quality content available, including not only IPL but the Joshua versus Franklin fight on 1st April, there’s never been a better time for UK sports fans to subscribe to Dazn.”
Bryan Henderson, Director of Cricket & NFL, Sky Sports, added, “The IPL sees the best players from across the world face off in front of a fanatical local audience in search of glory – resulting in some of the most explosive cricket around.
“We’re excited to add even more live action to a busy cricketing summer that features both men’s and women’s Ashes series, The Vitality Blast and The Hundred, as well as a number of international series for both England’s men’s and women’s teams.”
In June 2022, global media rights to the IPL from 2023-2027 inclusive were sold by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a total of around $6.2bn (£5bn), making the IPL one of the most valuable sports media properties in the world.
