Global sports entertainment platform DAZN has announced it will exclusively broadcast next week’s Women’s International Champions Cup (WICC) in over 175 countries and territories worldwide, including the UK.

The rights deal includes the likes of Italy, Spain, DACH, Japan, France, Canada, and will be streamed both on the DAZN platform and DAZN’s dedicated UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) YouTube channel.

Launched by New York City-based sports media company and events promotor Relevent Sports Group in 2018, the WICC is an annual club women’s football invitational tournament in the United States featuring four invitational American and European teams.

This year, Chelsea FC, Olympique Lyonnais, Portland Thorns, and C.F. Monterrey will all be competing for the trophy in a tournament that takes place over two matchdays, 17th and 20th August.

DAZN has also confirmed that the broadcast will be available in both English and French to ensure Lyon football fans also benefit from the commentary.

Shay Segev, CEO, DAZN Group, commented, “Securing the global rights to the Women’s International Champions Cup is fantastic for DAZN as we continue to grow audiences and engagement in women’s sport.

“This tournament comes after an unforgettable summer of women’s football in Europe, and it promises to be an exciting precursor to the next UWCL season on DAZN.”

The deal is another boost for women’s football in what has been a historic summer for the game. After record-breaking attendances and viewing figures for the UEFA Women’s Euros in England, it is hoped that the interest and success can be translated to the club tournaments too.

WICC further strengthens DAZN’ football broadcasting portfolio which includes the likes of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Women’s Champions League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Serie A, and the J.League.
