Fast-growing OTT platform DAZN has landed exclusive rights to the Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenger Cup (EPCR) in six international territories.
DAZN will screen 70 EPCR matches for four seasons across Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Japan.
Starting on 12th October 2018, the platform will broadcast every round in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup pool stage, quarter-final, semi-final and final.
The EPCR will have selected pool-stage matches and all quarter-final, semi-final and final matches streamed.
Commenting on the agreement, Jacopo Tonoli, chief commercial officer of DAZN Group said: “We’re thrilled to bring two more world-class rugby tournaments to DAZN customers in six different countries as part of their existing subscription.
“DAZN is thriving as a better and fairer way to watch the best sport, anytime, on any device – and making more premium tournaments such as The Heineken Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup available to watch at an affordable price is at the heart of our vision.”
EPCR director general Vincent Gaillard said: “The Heineken Champions Cup is a premium tournament at the very pinnacle of club rugby across the world, so this partnership with an innovative streaming provider of sport in DAZN is excellent news for fans across these different territories.
“As European club rugby goes from strength to strength, so access to the live action also improves and adds a high-quality viewing experience to the best possible on-field product.
“The exposure of the Challenge Cup in Italy is particularly vital to fans there as we have seen excellent developments there recently for their clubs participating in that tournament this season.”
The news follows last month’s announcement of Perform’s decision to rebrand as DAZN Group – a move that reflects the growing global footprint and ambitions for the platform.
