The Wimbledon tennis tournament is to increase its revenues by an additional £59.5m after the organisers issued debenture tickets for the 2011 to 2015 period.

The debenture tickets, up for sale for a price of £27,750 each for the duration of the period, give the right to a reserved seat on Centre Court for every day of the tournament.

The All England Lawn Tennis Ground Plc, which owns the grounds of the grass-court Grand Slam event, said 2,500 tickets will be issued.

Debentures were first introduced in 1920 to finance the purchase of part of the company’s present grounds and buildings and the construction of Centre Court.

Since then, proceeds from subsequent debenture issues have provided funding for many significant improvements to the facilities at the grounds.

The redevelopment of Centre Court has enabled the AELTG to improve the quality of the seating and, since 2006 increased the court’s capacity to approximately 15,000.
