The tearing down of Derbyshire’s County Ground in Derby has begun as the first stage of redeveloping the ground.
In an effort to move the club forward, the old jockey quarters – the last symbol that the ground used to be a horseracing course – are being demolished to make room for north-south pitches.
The reconstruction will see the ground turn the square 90 degrees to prevent problems of sun stopping play.
Chief executive Keith Loring told the club website that the redevelopment would be an economic saver as the cost of keeping the old buildings safe would have been much higher than tearing them down and starting over.
