Discovery Communications has appointed communications consultancy Ketchum as agency of record for sports to help drive the company’s Eurosport business across key European markets.

The partnership will leverage Ketchum’s sport and Olympic Games’ expertise to support Eurosport as the new home of the Olympic Games in Europe.

“At Discovery Communications we are incredibly proud of Eurosport’s unrivalled expertise in covering Olympic sports all year long,” said Michelle Russo, EVP, Global Communications at Discovery.

“As the home of the Olympic Games in Europe from 2018-2024 our goal is to bring the Olympic Games to more people, across more screens than ever before, and we chose Ketchum as our partner to help us deliver on our ambition as they have an excellent track record working on some of the biggest sporting events in the world.”

Ketchum Sports & Entertainment’s London practice director Steph McDonald added: “We’re thrilled to partner with Discovery Communications and Eurosport to help bring fans closer to live and exclusive sport action. Our partnership with Discovery Communications will focus on inspiring, engaging and informing fans that Eurosport is the home of Olympic sport, both in the lead up to, and during the Games themselves.”

Discovery agreed a €1.3bn deal with the IOC in 2015, securing all TV and multiplatform broadcast rights in Europe for the Olympic Games through until 2024, with Eurosport officially unveiled as the new home of the Olympic Games at the start of 2017.
