World number one and new US Open champion Novak Djokovic has set a new ATP prize money record of £6.72m ($10.6m) for the year.
Djokovic surpasses US Open runner up Nadal, and semi-finalist Roger Federer, who earned just under £6.47m ($10.2m) in 2010 and 2007 respectively.
The Serbian’s US Open final win, his third Grand Slam of the season, was his 64th win in 66 matches in 2011.
Djokovic earned £1.46m ($2.3m) for his singles title on Monday night.
The world number one told media: ‘It has been a dream year and the best of my career so I am loving every minute of it’.
‘When you win against your top rivals it make victory sweeter. This is the trophy every tennis player dreams to win so I am really thrilled’.
