Doosan is continuing its sponsorship of next week’s Open Championship at Royal Lytham, one of the four major golf tournaments in the world.
According Doosan, the sponsorship will form an important part of the company’s marketing strategy and through its UK-based subsidiary Doosan Power Systems it is committed to pursuing further contracts and investment in the UK and Europe in its core market, power generation.
Jean-Michel Aubertin, chief executive officer of Doosan Power Systems, said: ‘We are delighted to continue our successful relationship with The Open as a patron as it is an excellent opportunity for Doosan to raise its profile throughout the world.’
Meanwhile, it has also been announced that the winner of the Open will earn £900,000 – the same as the prize Darren Clarke collected at Royal St George’s last summer from a total prize purse of £5m.
The total purse also remains unchanged, with everyone who survives the halfway cut in the 156-strong field guaranteed at least £9,000 – more than double the amount Tony Jacklin won for lifting the Claret Jug on the course in 1969.
David Duval collected £600 000 on Lytham’s last staging of the championship 11 years ago.
